QUALIFICATIONS FOR RECERTIFICATION

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS
Proof of an active medical license in the U.S. or Canada.
Proof of completion of a residency in the U.S. or Canada.
Active board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board or osteopathic medicine equivalent.
REQUIRED CME CREDIT HOURS
A minimum of 120 credit hours of continuing medical education (CME) recognized by the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award (AMA PRA) Category 1 Credits on the topic of obesity are required for recertification.
CME credits may be obtained through in-person or at-home activities.
CME CREDIT TIMELINE
All 120 CME credits must be earned during the 10-year certification period.
All CME credit must be earned and documented at the time of exam application.
Candidates for recertification may take the ABOM exam in any of the three years immediately preceding their certification end date.
