The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) announced today it is partnering with Professional Testing, Inc. to develop and administer the annual certification examination for obesity medicine physicians through Pearson VUE, the global leader in exam delivery for medical organizations. The partnership with Professional Testing represents another important step forward for ABOM, which oversees certification of physicians in one of the fastest-growing fields of medicine in North America. Earlier this month, ABOM welcomed 639 new diplomates when test results for the November 2021 exam were released. In the past nine months, more than 1,700 physicians have achieved first-time obesity medicine certification and the total number of ABOM diplomates stands at 5,881.
In delivering exams through Pearson VUE’s network of more than 300 computer-based test centers throughout the United States and Canada, ABOM will elevate the test-taking experience for the one thousand-plus doctors who sit for the four-hour exam every year.
“Pearson VUE has extensive experience administering high-stakes exams for doctors and ABOM is excited to join this group of leading organizations to provide its candidates with a premier testing experience at Pearson VUE’s company-owned and -operated Pearson Professional Centers,” said ABOM Executive Director Dana Brittan.
To facilitate the transition to Professional Testing and Pearson VUE, the 2022 ABOM exam administration window is shifting from September 2022 to November 7-19, 2022. This change allows ABOM to extend its testing window to 12 days, keep its current application deadline of July 15, 2022, and add a late application period from July 16-August 8, 2022 for physicians who need extra time to complete requirements.
